What are your current responsibilities?

As an advertising sales representative, I propose advertising products for Rakuten’s more than 70 services to clients in Japan, and after receiving an order, I am responsible for the progress of the advertisement until it is released.

My schedule often consists of responding to emails, meetings, and other internal tasks in the morning, and going out to visit clients in the afternoon.

During my work, I consider prompt communication in all matters extremely important. For example, I try to anticipate the sort of information the client might ask for and check with the relevant people beforehand so that I can prepare an answer. By responding quickly, we do our best to deal with our clients as quickly as possible.

What do you find challenging and exciting about your job?

It is rewarding when the content of the proposal and the performance of the advertisements meet the client’s needs and they are pleased with the results.

I think it is very important as a salesperson to respond flexibly to the timeframes established by our clients. Occasionally, we have to complete the ad delivery process on a tight schedule, which can be difficult because it requires coordination with various parties within the company, such as ad reviewers and operations staff. However, when the clients’ requests are fulfilled and we receive words of appreciation and praise, we feel a sense of accomplishment and that our hard work has paid off!

Where do you feel you have improved since joining Rakuten?

As I gain more experience, I feel that I am becoming more comfortable talking with clients.

When I was first assigned to a meeting, I would do my best to convey the knowledge I had gained, but I continued to study and practice better communication methods so that I could communicate more smoothly.

I had many opportunities to learn from my senior colleagues who accompanied me on business meetings. I learned how to phrase things in a way so I could accurately convey them to others, and I developed the habit of thinking about each statement I made ahead of time and communicating it properly.

Rakuten’s services are diverse and continue to evolve every day. By effectively using these services, we believe that we can make proposals that will create new forms of synergy. To that end, I would like to further hone my ability to elicit information from clients, so that they can rely on me on a regular basis.
