What are your current responsibilities?

I’m involved in launching new businesses within Rakuten Group. My primary tasks include researching startup companies that have secured funding in the past three months and devising suitable business models. I also look into companies that Rakuten Capital has invested in to find potential synergies and create collaborative business models.

Another area of my work involves providing support for an online medical treatment business. My duties are multifaceted and include accounting, legal affairs, sales, offline marketing and planning. My responsibilities are underpinned by the spirit of “Project 6”, an important element of Rakuten’s corporate culture involving pursuing a diverse range of initiatives with a high degree of flexibility.

How do you feel you have grown since joining Rakuten?

For the first two years after joining Rakuten Group as a fresh university graduate, I followed one of Rakuten Group’s Five Principles for Success: “Speed!! Speed!! Speed!!”. I threw myself into my work and was able to establish a foundation for myself as a working professional. I was initially assigned to the payment business, where I was tasked with directing the progress of a 500-person project. That role made me realize how difficult it is to motivate people, but I managed to successfully complete the project, embodying the spirit of another of Rakuten’s Principles for Success: “Get Things Done.” The project team was awarded a Rakuten Payment Award and during the awards ceremony, I felt a sense of personal growth. I continually strive to apply what I learn to my personal life, with the hope of making a meaningful contribution to society through my efforts.

Why did you join Rakuten?

What I find most compelling about working for Rakuten Group is the opportunity to get deeply involved in the development of new businesses. Analyzing how existing services are monetized while also pinpointing their fundamental features, exposes me to a wide array of business models related to service provision. As I go about my daily tasks, my ultimate aim of launching a new business always resonates in my mind and the thought of potential opportunities ahead is always a source of excitement.

How do you feel you have contributed to customers and society through your work?

I participate in a Rakuten Group sustainability program called “Dialogue for Change with Rakuten”, which involves interacting with various stakeholders to bring about positive societal change in the future. Also, since I’m involved in the startup phase of businesses in my work, I aim to help empower people by leveraging Rakuten’s unique influence as a company developing a diverse range of businesses. As the services I helped launch gradually gain recognition, I often get feedback about them from family and friends. This gives me a real feeling that I’m making a meaningful contribution to the world.
