What are your current responsibilities?

My department is responsible for the development and sales promotion of advertising products related to various Rakuten Group businesses. Specifically, my focus lies in managing advertising products associated with Rakuten Bank and Rakuten Securities. This involves tasks such as overseeing email advertisements and printed direct mail distributed by these businesses. One of Rakuten’s key strengths in advertising lies in our ability to leverage the abundant datasets held by each business. My role entails evaluating the content and quality of the data held by each business, identifying target demographics that can be reached, and developing advertising products that maximize the strengths of each business and the data they hold. Ultimately, I aim to utilize these elements to drive advertising sales for the businesses I handle.

What do you find satisfying and interesting about your work?

I find great satisfaction in working with various Rakuten businesses as an advertising professional. As part of the Global Ad Division, which oversees Rakuten’s entire advertising system, this role provides me with a comprehensive view of the whole Rakuten Group through the lens of advertising. In my three years at Rakuten, I’ve gained extensive experience as a media specialist for a wide range of businesses, including Rakuten Travel, Rakuten Books, Rakuten Card, Rakuten Bank, and Rakuten Securities. Engaging with advertising products has allowed me to immerse myself in the data and culture of each business, each possessing unique characteristics, and that has been an invaluable learning opportunity for me.

Where do you feel you have improved since joining Rakuten?

Initially, my primary focus was on diligently managing the daily tasks I was assigned. Whenever I faced uncertainties, I sought guidance from personnel managing the specific advertising platform where the ads I worked on were intended to be placed. As I gained work experience, my goal shifted from relying on others to becoming a reliable source of guidance. I consciously absorbed answers to my questions, incorporating them into my knowledge base. During interactions with advertising media personnel, I focused on considering their perspectives. Now, I feel that I have established relationships where I can engage with them on an equal footing.

What do you keep in mind in terms of your attitude toward daily work?

I prioritize sincerity in all my interactions. Recognizing that individuals, such as advertising media personnel and sales representatives, generously share their valuable time to engage with me, I make a concerted effort to respond to them promptly. Whether it is replying to emails or chat messages, I aim to respond immediately. In cases where I am unable to provide an immediate answer, I make sure to indicate when I can reply to them. I believe that cultivating trust is facilitated through timely and courteous responses.
