What are your current responsibilities?
I am a member of the Commerce & Marketing Company Technology Supervisory Department, a unique internal business unit dedicated to launching new services from scratch within the Rakuten Group and focusing on the development and expansion of those services. My primary focus is the development and operation of Rakuten’s health examination-related services and several Rakuten Farm products. My responsibilities cover a wide range of areas, encompassing tasks such as design, development, testing, and release management, as well as infrastructure construction and improvement. I work in a dynamic environment that allows me to take on a diverse range of challenges as an engineer and tackle a multitude of issues each day, fostering a strong sense of ownership in my role.
Why did you join Rakuten?
I was drawn to Rakuten because it provides an environment where I can shape my future career. Engineers are required to absorb new knowledge as technologies evolve constantly, and Rakuten is committed to offering us wide-ranging support for learning and development. Beyond technical proficiencies, there are also ample opportunities for us to cultivate essential business skills. These include developing a collaborative mindset and the communication skills required for effective teamwork with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I believe the many things I learned in my role will help broaden my future career options.
Where do you feel you have improved since joining Rakuten?
Rakuten Group offers a unique career advancement The Open Job Information System, which I utilized to transfer to my current role within the Commerce & Marketing Company Technology Supervisory Department. My goal was to expand my technical expertise as an engineer by immersing myself in a team dedicated to launching new services. The Open Job Information System facilitates internal recruitment of Rakuten employees when new positions become available. This system empowers individuals to make the most of their environment and fully leverage the experience they’ve gained in tackling new challenges. Not only did this system provide me with autonomy in shaping my career, but it also increased my motivation and job satisfaction, concurrently allowing me to refine my skills as an engineer.
What do you keep in mind in terms of your attitude toward daily work?
My team and I are deeply committed to making services available faster and enhancing development efforts daily. I actively leverage Rakuten’s internal resources, such as online self-training, to broaden my knowledge about trending technologies. Participating in monthly cross-functional meetings with various Rakuten technology units allows for knowledge sharing, staying informed about the latest industry news, and learning about the development work of other teams. I consider these meetings as valuable learning opportunities and use them as a way to enhance my skills.

- 09:30
- To arrive at the office 30 minutes later than the usual start time, the flextime system is utilized. Our team has a short meeting every morning to share project progress and align development schedules.
- 10:00
- For working on the basic designs for new services in accordance with the specified requirements, the process is proceeded with.
- 12:00
- Grab lunch in the cafeteria. I’m really glad there are lunch options with salad as the main dish.
- 13:00
- Work on building an automation system to increase the team’s productivity to facilitate faster and more stable product and service releases.
- 15:00
- Weekly 1-on-1 meetings are held with my supervisor to discuss challenges and future career development.
- 16:30
- Attend a meeting for engineers with all members of the department. We share information on current challenges and interesting technology-related news.
- 18:00
- Finish work. I sometimes join fellow team members to watch baseball games.
