Taiwan Rakuten Card and Tigerair Taiwan Partner to Launch Co-branded Credit Cards

Tokyo, May 31, 2022 - Rakuten Card Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Rakuten Group, Inc., today announced that its subsidiary Taiwan Rakuten Card, Inc. will partner with Tigerair Taiwan to release the airline's first ever co-branded credit card.

Tigerair Taiwan is the leading low-cost carrier (LCC) in Taiwan. Tigerair operates an extensive network, flying to 15 destinations in Japan from Taiwan. The airline has built a close relationship with Rakuten through multiple collaborations in the region, including the launch of a Tigerair jet decorated in the Rakuten-owned professional Taiwan baseball team Rakuten Monkeys livery in March 2021 and a Tigerair Group Day celebration held at Rakuten Stadium – home of the Rakuten Monkeys – in October 2021.

The Tigerair co-branded card is the official credit card of Tigerair issued by Taiwan Rakuten Card. Cardholders can enjoy a 15% discount on Taiwan-Japan route tickets every day, with an up to 20% discount under special conditions. In addition to the standard design, a limited-edition black card with an LED light design will be issued to the first 5,000 VIP applicants. Applications for the credit cards will be accepted in Taiwan starting from May 31, 2022.

Since Taiwan Rakuten Card began issuing credit cards in 2015, the number of cardholders in Taiwan has continued to grow every year thanks to features such as no annual membership fees, attractive reward campaigns and collaborations with various Rakuten Group services. Over 600,000 Taiwan Rakuten Card credit cards have been issued in Taiwan as of April 2022.

Taiwan Rakuten Card will celebrate the launch of the new Tigerair co-branded card by offering a free Rakuten Monkeys home game ticket to all new applicants who complete a transaction for 500 TWD or more by June 2022. In addition, each tap or swipe of a Tigerair co-branded card by the end of July 2022 earns the cardholder an entry into a lucky shuffle for a chance to win a Taipei–Tokyo round trip ticket or a coupon for a free night’s stay at a hotel.
