Taiwan Rakuten Card to Issue Official Rakuten Monkeys Credit Cards

Tokyo, August 19, 2020 - Rakuten Card Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Rakuten, Inc., today announced that its subsidiary company, Taiwan Rakuten Card, Inc. will release Taiwan Rakuten Card credit cards featuring Rakuten Monkeys designs to celebrate the team’s entry into the Rakuten Group.

Rakuten, Inc., announced in 2019 that it acquired the professional Taiwanese baseball team Lamigo Monkeys from La New International Corporation. The team began operating under the new name “Rakuten Monkeys” from the start of the 2020 season. 

The Rakuten Monkeys designed Taiwan Rakuten Card credit cards are the official credit cards of the Rakuten Monkeys in Taiwan. Users will be able to choose between three types of card face designs: A team mascot Rakuten Rocky themed card; a Rakuten Monkeys players themed card, featuring five of the leading players in the team; and a Rakuten Girls themed card, featuring five of the most popular members of the Rakuten Monkeys cheerleading team. Applications for the credit cards will be accepted in Taiwan starting from August 20.

Since Taiwan Rakuten Card began issuing credit cards in 2015, the number of cardholders in Taiwan has continued to grow every year thanks to features such as no annual membership fees, high point reward campaigns and the ability to utilize the points earned to pay for various Rakuten Group services. Over 590,000 Taiwan Rakuten Card credit cards have been issued in Taiwan as of July 2020.

Taiwan Rakuten Card will hold a drawing campaign exclusively for the Rakuten Monkeys designed Taiwan Rakuten Card credit cards from September 1 to December 31, 2020. Each transaction made with an eligible credit card offers cardholders the opportunity to win Rakuten Monkey player t-shirts, baseball cap or a player’s autograph. In addition to the drawing, Rakuten Monkeys designed Taiwan Rakuten Card credit cards also offer Rakuten Monkeys Baseball Club Membership renewal discounts and Rakuten Points rebates in all Rakuten Monkeys brick-and-mortar stores. In addition, Taiwan Rakuten Card offers benefits and discounts for onsite ticket purchasing and at Rakuten Monkeys brick-and-mortar stores to all Taiwan Rakuten Card cardholders.

Taiwan Rakuten Card will continue to strive to enhance and expand its credit card service and lineup of features, and make financial services more convenient, easier to use and more accessible to customers in order to further improve customer satisfaction.
