Tokyo, May 8, 2019 – Rakuten, Inc., a global leader in internet services headquartered in Tokyo, today announced the opening of a new global Development Center in Dalian, China. This is the second development center in China. Other Rakuten development centers include Tokyo, San Mateo, Singapore, Paris, Boston, Belfast, Montpellier, Bengaluru and Shanghai.
The new office in Dalian will collaborate with more than 3,000 engineers, researchers and technical teams in Rakuten from around the world, focusing on the development of tools and services to deliver on Rakuten’s global vision of leveraging AI and Big Data technology to further improve Rakuten’s e-commerce, fintech and digital content services.

Rakuten established its first Chinese development center, Rakuten China Development Center Co., Ltd., in Beijing during 2010 and expanded to a second office in Shanghai in 2015.
