Tokyo, April 5, 2018 – Rakuten, Inc. today announced it has entered into a partnership with the nonprofit organization National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance (NCFTA) of the United States to share information about, neutralize and mitigate the threat of cybercrime.

Under the partnership, Rakuten will be able to participate smoothly in real-time information-sharing and analysis about cybercrime with law enforcement agencies, related organizations and academic institutions around the world. Combined with the establishment of new internal systems and procedures, the partnership makes it possible for Rakuten to respond to cybercrime with the kind of speed and international cooperation that it requires. Rakuten looks forward to contributing to the identification and mitigation of cybercrime threats.

The NCFTA aggregates, accumulates and maintains a database of information on cybercrime techniques, damage and computer viruses, which is analyzed by experts who propose countermeasures to governments and decision-making organizations to mitigate and identify crimes. The NCFTA works with more than 550 United States and European law enforcement agencies, private information technology companies, banks, credit card companies, pharmaceutical companies and academic organizations such as universities.

Cyberattacks have been occurring on a global scale in recent years, and their methods are always changing and diversifying. In these circumstances, Rakuten aims through this collaboration to provide safer and more comfortable service for users of Rakuten Group services, as well as to focus on training human resources in security.

Rakuten will continue to strengthen its initiatives to counter cybercrime and strive to contribute to the creation of an environment that its users can use with confidence.
