Rakuten Clutch Special Charity Fund Begins Accepting Third Round of Donations for COVID-19 Crisis Response

Tokyo, February 2, 2020 – The Rakuten Group wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to patients, their families and all those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rakuten, Inc. is now accepting a third round of donations through the Rakuten Clutch Special Charity Fund to support COVID-19 crisis response initiatives.

Rakuten held the first round of donations from April 10 through June 19 of last year, and a second round followed from June 22 through August 31. The donations received enabled funded charities to offer much-needed support to many affected by the pandemic. Nearly a year has passed since the spread of COVID-19 started in Japan, and in light of the long-term effects of the pandemic, support for medical institutions and individuals facing difficult situations will be necessary for the foreseeable future. In response, Rakuten has announced that it will continue to accept donations through its Rakuten Clutch Special Charity Fund.

Those wishing to make donations can choose from a variety of payment methods including Rakuten Points, VISA and Mastercard credit cards including Rakuten Card, and cash transfers to a designated Rakuten Bank account. (See below for further details.)

Donations made through the third round of donations for this fund will be presented through the Nippon Foundation’s Coronavirus Emergency Relief Fund to medical staff, front-line workers and children deeply affected by the pandemic. Rakuten will accept contributions from February 1 through March 31, 2021.*

The Rakuten Group is committed to maximizing the potential of the internet to empower the provision of aid to those in need, including charitable activities.

* Additional charities may receive donations from the Rakuten Clutch Special Charity Fund depending on future developments.
