Tokyo, March 24, 2016 - Rakuten, Inc. today announced that it will begin offering “Rakuten Gakuwari,” a membership program for students aged 15 to 25, from March 24.
Rakuten Gakuwari is a membership program for students aged 15 to 25 who attend universities and graduate schools, junior colleges, high schools, technical schools, and technical colleges in Japan. Rakuten Gakuwari members will be able to enjoy exclusive benefits relating to nine services that Rakuten offers in the fields of e-commerce, travel, finance, telecommunications, and entertainment, such as Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Books, Rakuten Kobo, Rakuten Card, Rakuten Brand Avenue, Rakuten SHOWTIME, Rakuten Travel, Rakuten Mobile, and Rakuten Beauty.
A range of benefits supporting students will be offered from the group’s various services to Rakuten Gakuwari members. For example, on Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Gakuwari members will be able to utilize a free-shipping coupon for applicable products 24 times per year (12 times during the trial period), and they will also be able to obtain shop-issued coupons exclusive to members to be utilized at those shops. Rakuten Gakuwari members will be awarded ten times the Rakuten Super Points on purchases of applicable products on Rakuten Books, and will be able to use a 4,000 yen discount coupon for accommodation within Japan the first time they use Rakuten Travel. Additionally, by joining Rakuten Card Academy, the credit card exclusively for students, members will earn 4,000 Rakuten Super Points.
Rakuten Gakuwari will offer a trial period, with users able to receive benefits free of charge for the first six months after becoming members. Once the trial period ends, by registering as full members of Rakuten Gakuwari, users will be able to use Rakuten Gakuwari full members’ benefits for an annual fee of 1,780 yen (tax included).
Rakuten runs Minshu Diary, one of Japan’s largest word-of-mouth job-hunting information websites, as a service for students. The website centers on a bulletin board where current students exchange job-hunting information, and it provides a range of job-hunting services, such as company comparisons and success stories from students who have received tentative job offers.
Rakuten will continue to support the lives of students by offering appealing programs for young adults through services exclusively for students, such as Rakuten Gakuwari, Minshu Diary and Rakuten Card Academy.
