Tokyo, January 21, 2015 – Rakuten, Inc. and seven Rakuten Group companies in the finance business today announced that they have decided to jointly hold the Rakuten Financial Conference 2015 on February 23, 2015. This will be the first time for the conference to be held.
As the field of “FinTech,” a fusion of finance and technology, thrives in developed countries, the finance industry is entering a period of great transformation. The finance business of Rakuten Group, one of the three business that make up the core of the company along with the e-commerce business and the digital content business, will take the lead in the event which, with both Japanese and international guests from the IT and finance industries, will look at the new finance businesses that will come about through technological innovation, and provide information and expertise on FinTech, with the aim of contributing to the revitalization of the Japanese Economy.
Heizo Takenaka (Keio University, Professor of Faculty of Policy Management) has been invited to give a keynote address on the theme “The Issue with Abenomics and the Economic Environment Surrounding Japan.” Sessions with other guest speakers active on the forefront of the global finance world, such as Peter Thiel, Co-Founder of PayPal, and James Anderson, SVP of MasterCard, as well as a panel discussion with Hiroshi Mikitani, Rakuten, Inc. Chairman & CEO, are also scheduled.
