TOKYO, April 19, 2013 – Kobo Inc., a subsidiary of Rakuten Inc. (JASDAQ: 4755), today announced that its iOS app is now available for download in the Japanese market.

To date, Kobo had offered three specialized eBook reader devices – the kobo glo, kobo mini, and kobo Touch – as well as an Android app for the Japanese market. Now, with the launch of the iOS kobo app, it has also become possible to enjoy reading on iOS equipped devices in the same way. The range of devices which enable users to read e-books purchased via kobo e-Bookstore has been further expanded, allowing for multi-device compatibility that better meets the customer needs.

Because eBooks purchased in the Kobo eBookstore are synchronized on all devices, users can, for example, continue reading on an iOS equipped device the same contents that they had been reading on their eBook reader. Also, because of the color LCD display, users can enjoy color rich contents that could not be shown on an E Ink screen.

Functions unique to the app include viewing the reviews of other readers before reading a book, writing your own reviews after finishing a book, and sharing your opinion with other users via social reading function*1. With the iOS kobo app, it is now possible to post on Facebook and Twitter, allowing users to share their reading life with even more people.

Kobo is continuously committed to strive to offer an environment where even more people can easily enjoy the experience of reading eBooks, and to offer an even fuller range of contents.

*1 The use of this function is restricted for certain contents.
