Tokyo, August 11, 2015 – Fusion Communications Corporation, the telecommunications company of the Rakuten Group, today announced that it will open two new dedicated Rakuten Mobile stores this month. The Rakuten Mobile Sendai Ekimae Store (Aoba-ku, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture) will be open for business from August 21, and the Rakuten Mobile Kobe Sannomiya Store (Chuo-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture) from August 28.
At the new stores, as well as being able to receive explanations about the services offered by Rakuten Mobile and apply for contracts, customers will also be able to freely pick up and try the devices on display in the stores. In addition, customers will be able to carry out mobile number portability applications (MNP)*1 on the same day. Both stores feature a wood-grain decorated interior, creating a relaxing atmosphere within the store.
To commemorate the opening of the two stores, over three days from the opening, the monthly fees for the calling or data SIM for first 20 customers to apply for Rakuten Mobile devices each day will be free until the end of November 2015. In addition, over the three days from the opening, every customer who applies for Rakuten Mobile will be entered into a daily draw in which 10 customers will be awarded with an Edy R-Point Card charged with 3,000 yen and other customers will receive Rakuten Group related goods, such as goods from the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles and Vissel Kobe.
The opening of the two new stores follows the opening of Rakuten Mobile’s first dedicated store in Osaka on July 31, and the establishment of Rakuten Mobile consultation and application counters in the two Rakuten CAFEs in Tokyo and at the Rakuten Eagles Goods Shop in Sendai City. These stores and counters have proved popular with customers as they provide a physical touchpoint for customers to learn about the services available on Rakuten Mobile and to try out the devices in person before purchasing.
Rakuten Mobile will continue to open stores in major cities across Japan in order to expand its presence around the country and make it easier for customers to join the service.
