Rakuten Mobile to Offer Scheduled Delivery Service for New Applications

Tokyo, April 23, 2015 – Fusion Communications Corporation, the telecommunications company of the Rakuten Group, today announced that as part of the expansion of the Rakuten Mobile service, it will launch a scheduled delivery service and allow users to carry over any unused high-speed data from their data plan to the following month.

Details of the Scheduled Delivery Service
The scheduled delivery service will begin accepting applications from April 23, 2015. Through the service, customers will be able to specify the date and time of the delivery of their device and SIM card to ensure they can receive it at a time that suits them.

Until now, there have been cases where customers have hesitated about mobile number portability (MNP)*1 applications due to the uncertainty of the date of delivery and the timing of the disconnection of their current SIM. However, in the new scheduled delivery service, the current SIM will be disconnected from the day before the specified delivery date*2, allowing customers to plan their usage of MNP in advance.

In addition, a special webpage that allows the customer to check the status of their application and delivery in real-time will be opened from today*3.

About the Carry Over of Unused High-speed Data
From May 2015, Rakuten Mobile users will be able to carry over any unused high-speed data from their data plan to the following month, allowing users to more efficiently utilize their high-speed data allowance from their plan. This service will be available to both new and existing users, and does not need to be applied for.

*1 MNP (mobile number portability) is a system in which a customer can keep their current mobile phone number when changing to a new provider.
*2 For mobile number portability (MNP) applications, the user’s current SIM card will be disconnected from the day before (in some areas two days before) the specified delivery date.
*3 The user can check the status of the delivery from the link to the special site included in the e-mail sent to the user after application.
