Japan Post to Launch Hako Post Delivery Locker Service in Collaboration with Rakuten Ichiba

– To Improve Convenience of Yu-Pack Parcel Pick-ups –

Tokyo, April 6, 2015 – Japan Post Co., Ltd. today announced that on April 9, 2015, it will launch the Yu-Pack parcel delivery locker service, as previously announced by Japan Post on January 15, 2015. The service will be offered through collaboration with Rakuten, Inc. on a trial basis until the end of October 2015 for the delivery of products purchased on the Rakuten Ichiba internet shopping mall.

The name of the delivery locker service is “Hako Post.” When a customer makes a purchase on Rakuten Ichiba from a store that is eligible for the Hako Post service, they can select Japan Post’s “Hako Post” as their preferred delivery method, and can pick up their product whenever they wish, at the time that best suits their lifestyle and needs.

Service and Trial Overview

1.     Trial period of Hako Post

Thursday, April 9, 2015 to end of October 2015 (planned)

Starting at 10:00am on Thursday, April 9, customers can designate a locker to receive a product purchased from a Rakuten Ichiba merchant.

2.    Hako Post Locations

25 Post Offices in Tokyo including Shibuya and Setagaya with pick-up and delivery services.

3.    Hako Post Conditions of Use

1)    Eligible Yu-Pack parcels

The service can be used with Yu-Pack parcels that meet the following crieria.

Rakuten Ichiba merchants

Size

A maximum of 58cm for the longest side, 40cm for the shortest side and 37cm for the height, with the total of these 3 dimensions of less than 100cm.

Weight

Under 30kg

Additional services

Parcels not requiring additional services such as payment on receipt (payment of both cost of item and delivery fees), payment on delivery (payment of delivery fees only), and chilled or frozen items.

Other

Parcels not required on particular day or time.

2)    Pick-up Method and Time

a. Once the Yu-Pack has arrived at the post office Hako Post, the purchaser will receive the ID code required to open the Hako Post by email from Rakuten, Inc.

b. The parcel is accessed by entering the ID code in (a) on the touch panel of the Hako Post.

c. The Yu-Pack must be collected within three days of the email notification.

d. If the Yu-Pack is not collected within three days, it is returned to the sender. In this case, please consult the sender about delivery of the package.

e. Yu-Pack parcels designated for collection at Hako Post cannot be collected at the Post Office desk.

4.    Service Launch Campaign

A campaign will be held to celebrate the launch of the Hako Post service.

1)    Survey

Customers who complete a survey on Hako Post are eligible for the “Share 100,000 Rakuten Super Points present” campaign. All customers completing the survey will be awarded an equal share of 100,000 Rakuten Super Points. (Survey response period: Monday, April 13, to Wednesday, May 13, 2015) 

2)    Using Hako Post

Every customer who collects a Yu-Pack parcel at Hako Post during the campaign period will be awarded 100 Rakuten Super Points. After collecting their Yu-Pack, customers who complete a survey in response to the email from Rakuten, Inc. will be awarded 400 Rakuten Super Points.
