Rakuten Launches “Rakuten Social
Responsibility Project” Homepage

- Dedicated Page to Provide Updates on Activity Progress and Support the
Creation of a New Japan in the Aftermath of the March 11 Disaster -

Rakuten, Inc. (“Rakuten,” Chairman and CEO: Hiroshi Mikitani, Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo) launched the “Rakuten Social Responsibility Project” homepage on 28 April with the aim of providing detailed information on our support activities conveying Rakuten Group’s insights into rebuilding and revitalizing Japan in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on 11 March, 2011.

The “Rakuten Social Responsibility Project” homepage details “Four Points for Everyone in Rakuten to Consider,” which sets out activities committed to the revitalization of the Tohoku Region and Japan. The homepage is a means of communicating Rakuten’s commitment to these activities, and will be updated frequently to reflect their progress.

Specifically, we aim to provide corporate support for the building of new communities and for the children who will inherit the future of Japan. We seek to offer greater thought to the environment that we live in by promoting the use of green energy and measures for reducing power consumption. Based on the principle of “empowerment” (empowering people and society) that we have maintained since the founding of Rakuten, we will implement activities that contribute to the revitalization of Japan.

Four Points for Everyone in Rakuten to Consider
・The Future of Japan (Providing support for the building of new communities, and for children)
・Energy that is Friendly to Both People and the Environment
・Conservation in Consideration of the Environment
・The Creation of Value for Society through Our Main Businesses

Under the column “Activity reports from Rakuten Group employees,” the homepage also disseminates real-time information via Twitter on fund-raising, contributions, and other support activities that have been implemented since the earthquake first struck. In addition, the homepage introduces activities that harness the unique characteristics of each business. These include the “Rakuten Tasukeai” (*) initiative, which is implemented in cooperation with Rakuten Marketplace stores.

Taking the Rakuten Eagles, who face their first game of the season at home on 29 April, as its symbol for reconstruction and recovery, the Rakuten Group, together with people in the Tohoku Region, will put more thought into the revitalization of Tohoku and Japan, and strive to contribute to the creation of a new Japan based on the course of action set out in the “Four Points for Everyone in Rakuten to Consider.”

*“Rakuten Tasukeai”

This is a support activity whereby specific supplies purchased by users from Rakuten Marketplace stores are delivered directly by Rakuten employees to disaster areas. In an effort to do our utmost to respond to the needs of those in the disaster areas, requests are being accepted through the collaborative networks built up by the Rakuten Eagles and the “Revitalize Japan! Project, ‘Machi-Raku’,” and items put up on sale under this initiative are chosen based on these requests.
