What are your current responsibilities?
I am in charge of strategic planning for a video content service in the Global Sports Business called Iniesta TV. While I am involved in essentially all of the planning for Iniesta TV, my main tasks include communicating with production companies about shooting sites and schedules, checking and translating videos and creating subtitles. In addition, I also consult with engineers on the specifications of distribution platforms, such as the Rakuten Sports app, and plan and develop social networking service strategies. I am involved in a wide range of tasks to revitalize business overall, not only the content I am directly responsible for.
Why did you join Rakuten?
While Rakuten is a Japanese company, it is also a global company with its eyes set on the world at large. The team I work with is also international, which prompts me to reconsider my values and attitude toward work every day. Rakuten offers a wide range of services, which is a major point of attraction for me since I can challenge myself to work in a way that expands my potential. After joining Rakuten, I started in the travel business, then moved on to the music business, then to new businesses, and now I am involved in the sports business. I like the fact that I can continue to have my own unique individuality, something that is more difficult to express at other companies, and that Rakuten highly values motivation and enthusiasm alongside experience and skills.
What was a moment when you felt empowered through your work?
I start work a little before regular hours by checking my email and schedule. I always make a to-do list for the following day, so I check that as well. Since Iniesta TV is produced by multiple teams in Japan and overseas, we hold regular meetings to check their progress.
For my main task, which is translation, I carefully examine the kinds of content we want to convey through Rakuten overall and Iniesta TV more specifically, not simply converting words from one language to another. After the translation is complete, I check it internally and, depending on the airing schedule, I may even do the upload by myself.
What does your typical workday look like?
I attend meetings of various importance and length every day. Being cognizant of information from other departments is very helpful, so I sometimes proactively and directly reach out to other departments for the most accurate information when preparing materials for important meetings. Occasionally I cannot answer unexpected questions that come up, but I reflect on them immediately so I will be able address them in the next meeting. At the end of the day, before leaving the office, I plan and prepare what I need to discuss with the team the next day. I always need to think ahead and am learning new things every day.
Outside of work, my favorite thing to do is enjoy my own home cooking along with my favorite wine.

- I check my emails and schedule for the day, as well as the to-do list I made the day before.

- I acquire service-related data and update the report while analyzing the latest figures.
- 10:00
- I participate in multiple regular online meetings, both domestic and international, to check the progress of each project.
- 12:00
- Lunchtime.
- 13:00
- I check the video materials for Iniesta TV and translate subtitles from Spanish to English and Japanese. I often respond to translation requests from other departments as well.
- 15:00
- I check the completed data and upload it.
- 16:00
- I participate in online meetings with clients in Europe. I set the purpose and goal of these meetings in advance and prepare materials to ensure smooth progress.
- 17:40
- I make a to-do list for tomorrow and head home.
