Countermeasures against Phishing Emails Impersonating Rakuten Group Services
There have been phishing emails impersonating Rakuten Group services such as ‘Rakuten Ichiba’ or ‘Rakuten Card’. As part of our efforts against this issue, we provide information to your email service providers so that they can identify legitimate emails from Rakuten Group. For this purpose, we use email authentication techniques called SPF/DKIM/DMARC.
Rakuten Brand Symbol or Verification Badge Shown on Rakuten Group Emails in each email service providers
Rakuten Group services corporate with email service providers to help you to identify legitimate emails easily. When a Rakuten Group service sends a legitimate email to Yahoo! Japan mail, NTT docomo mail, Gmail or Apple Mail, Rakuten band symbol or verification badge is displayed. Each email service provider takes different approaches to help you. So please check the detail from below.
1. Display of Rakuten Brand Symbol in “Yahoo! Japan Mail*”
*”Yahoo! Japan Mail” is a service provide by Yahoo Japan Corporation Brand SymbolWhen a Rakuten Group service sends an email to your Yahoo Japan email address and it is authenticated, Rakuten brand symbol is displayed in your inbox.
Brand SymbolWhen you receive an email without the Rakuten brand symbol, please carefully check the subject and text. If you do not recognize the email, please never click the URL in the text or download attached files and make sure to delete the email itself.
- You can see brand symbols in “Yahoo! Japan Mail” inbox when you access it from a web browser or your smartphone app. If you access from other email client software, they are not displayed.
- Depending on the information to be provided, Rakuten Group services use various domains (right part after @) to send emails. So, please be informed that in some cases, brand symbols may not be displayed in legitimate emails from Rakuten services.
- We are expanding our scope of domains to implement the display of our brand symbols.

2. Verification Badge Shown on Rakuten Group Emails in “NTT docomo Mail*”
*“NTT docomo Mail” is a cloud-based email service provide by NTT DOCOMO, INC.
When a Rakuten Group service sends an email to your NTT docomo email address (xxxx@docomo.ne.jp) and it is authenticated, verification badge “” is displayed in the email itself and in your inbox.
When you receive an email without the verification badge, please carefully check the subject and text. If you do not recognize the email, please never click the URL in the text or download attached files and make sure to delete the email itself.
- You can see verification badges in “NTT docomo Mail” inbox when you access it from a web browser or your smartphone app. If you access from other email client software, they are not displayed.

When you receive an email without the Rakuten brand symbol, please carefully check the subject and text. If you do not recognize the email, please never click the URL in the text or download attached files and make sure to delete the email itself.
