In September 2015, Rakuten Socio Business, Inc., a special subsidiary company of Rakuten, established a new plant factory in Tokyo's Ota Ward. Inside the approximately 231 square-meter-wide building, UV-producing LED lights are used in place of the sun, and water is used in place of soil to grow vegetables. These vegetables are shipped and served daily in the Rakuten Crimson House cafeterias. This initiative is aimed at providing a stable supply of highly nutritious vegetables as well as creating a new type of work environment.
In this video report, you can see among other things an interview with a teacher and a student from a special needs school who were visiting on a job-hunting tour.
