Rakuten Bank First in Japan to Introduce Fingerprint Authentication in App

On June 30, 2015, fingerprint authentication was introduced into the Rakuten Bank smartphone app. Development of this system began soon after an API was released for Apple's fingerprint authentication system, Touch ID (biometric fingerprint authentication technology). The app was the first of its kind for a Japanese bank. How was Rakuten Bank able to introduce this new service so quickly?
