What are your current responsibilities?

I work on the new customer acquisition team for Rakuten Pay. Our mission is to increase the number of new users of the Rakuten Pay service. We work through trial-and-error with leads from various services including Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Bank, Rakuten Rakuma and Rakuten Securities to encourage people who already use Rakuten Group services to try Rakuten Pay as well. We consider how we can get customers interested and plan and implement various marketing campaigns to encourage people to start using Rakuten Pay. In addition, I am also responsible for facilitating the weekly Rakuten Group company-wide ASAKAI morning meeting in English. I am grateful for this work environment that enables me to utilize my strengths in a flexible way.

What do you find challenging and exciting about your job?

It is rewarding to see many people come into contact with the marketing campaigns and communications that I have been involved in. It’s nice to know that people feel their lives are now more convenient thanks to our services. There is also a simple pleasure in being able to experience – in my daily life as an individual customer – the projects and campaigns that I have created as a marketer, with the help of the people around me.

On top of that, I enjoy putting the “plan-do-check-act” (PDCA) cycle into practice, which involves planning initiatives, launching campaigns and listening to users' feedback through surveys in order to improve the Rakuten Pay service. I am always working to enrich people's lives and society while keeping our goal of “user first” in mind.

Why did you join Rakuten?

I think the most attractive thing about working at Rakuten Group is being able to collaborate with the various services from each business unit. We get to work in marketing while utilizing the Rakuten Ecosystem, which includes Rakuten Ichiba, Rakuten Card, Rakuten Bank, Rakuten Securities, Rakuten Rakuma, to name just a few.

My business unit, Rakuten Payment, is able to improve and expand its services while leveraging other business units’ expertise. I also won a monthly award from Rakuten Payment for a new registration campaign, which I created from scratch. I feel that Rakuten Group has an environment which recognizes and rewards hard work.

What activities do you participate in at Rakuten?

I participate in the ASAKAI committee and the golf club. ASAKAI is a valuable opportunity to share information on the progress of each business, how to apply best practices, company-wide marketing initiatives, technology trends and various other topics. As a facilitator, I enjoy working with our multinational team to think of creative ways to keep the ASAKAI fun and lively!

Rakuten Group has around 50 clubs, and I am a member of the golf club. The club gives me a chance to enjoy my hobby and to network with many people from other Rakuten businesses, creating valuable connections that help me at work and contribute to an even more comfortable working environment.
