What are your current responsibilities and what do you find challenging and exciting about your job?

I promote the cross-use of financial services and other Rakuten Group services and work with related businesses to plan, implement and improve cross-sectional promotions and services. I have many opportunities to be involved in the planning and promotion of projects for different services, which allows me to gain knowledge and experience in a wide variety of services, all while belonging to a single company. This variety makes my work always feel fresh and new.

While it may seem completely natural for members of different businesses and organizations to work together on projects with the same goals and perspectives, it can also be extremely challenging. This is why I find it rewarding when I receive words of appreciation from other members or recognition within the company after completing a project.

Why did you join Rakuten?

There are two big reasons why I work for Rakuten. First, there are opportunities to engage with people in a wide variety of positions and roles in different businesses. Second, I really feel that I’m able to set my own challenges and forge my own path here. The Marketing Department of the FinTech Strategy Division, where I work, serves as a hub that connects various group companies and is involved in projects that transcend organizational boundaries.

This means I get to think about what’s best not just for Rakuten Card, but also for our FinTech Group Company and even the entire Rakuten Group. I feel that I can develop my planning abilities by working on marketing and service strategies that look at FinTech as a whole, while developing my ability to lead and coordinate by working on projects that span multiple businesses. “Get it done, never give up!” is the motto I always keep in mind at work.

What has your career path been like, and how have you grown?

After joining the company, I was assigned to Rakuten Card, where my goal was to increase the volume of shopping transactions for Rakuten Card. During that time, I learned how to plan strategies and analyze statistics, starting from the basics. I still remember the joy I felt when we achieved our goal as a team. Being involved in the launch of the overseas business Taiwan Rakuten Card and being part of a rapidly growing company were also very valuable experiences.

After that, I was transferred to Rakuten Card International Business Management Division, where I gained experience in a wide range of operations, such as card member recruitment, card usage promotion, inbound affiliated store sales and app development. I then wanted to stretch myself in a different area, so I applied for an internal move and spent time working in human resources. Utilizing skills I had picked up in other fields, I worked on the planning, management and analysis of internship and recruitment events. I have since gained further experience in my current role in the FinTech Marketing Department.

Message to students

Job hunting as a new university graduate is a once in a lifetime experience and I am sure students have many things to worry about and may feel lost or under pressure. I was attracted by Rakuten’s employees and joined the company because I wanted to try various types of work. I have been able to work on overseas businesses, which I was interested in before joining the company. I found it rewarding to formulate plans and strategies starting from scratch, develop them on my own and work them into a system. There are many kinds of projects you can be involved in at Rakuten Group that you can’t experience anywhere else. Let's make it happen together! I wish all of you students an enjoyable and fruitful job-hunting experience!
