Rakuten Begins T-shirt Donation Drive to Support Ukraine: Donators Contributing 3,000 Yen or More to Receive Charity T-Shirt

Tokyo, March 11, 2022 – Rakuten Group, Inc. today announced that it has launched a t-shirt donation drive to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Those making donations of 3,000 yen or more will be presented with a Support Ukraine Charity T-Shirt.

Through this project, participants of the t-shirt donation drive to support Ukraine donating 3,000 yen or more will be presented with a Support Ukraine Charity T-shirt featuring a Ukrainian flag design. Donations received will be used for the provision of humanitarian aid such as drinking water and other material support, healthcare services and the protection of children, through the Ukrainian government (Embassy of Ukraine in Japan), the Japan Committee for UNICEF and the UNHCR (the United Nations Refugee Agency) ^*1. Donations will be accepted through March 31^*2. Those wishing to make donations can choose from a variety of payment methods including Rakuten Points and Rakuten Card, as well as VISA and Mastercard credit cards. The t-shirts are scheduled to be shipped in mid-May 2022.

Concerns about a severe humanitarian crisis continue as many people in Ukraine, including civilians, have lost their lives, with many more having been forced to flee the country. Rakuten has already begun accepting donations for the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Emergency Relief Fund through its online donation system, the Rakuten Clutch Special Charity Fund. In approximately eleven days’ time, donations to the Fund have surpassed 840 million yen (approximately 7.2 million USD)^*3. In addition, Rakuten Europe S.a.r.l., which oversees Rakuten’s operations in Europe, as well as Rakuten France S.A.S., which operates Rakuten’s online marketplace in France, have begun conducting their own fundraising activities, as the entire Rakuten Group unites in its efforts to support Ukraine.

As a member of the international community, Rakuten sincerely hopes for a peaceful resolution of this situation, so that the people of Ukraine will be able to regain a sense of normalcy as soon as possible. Going forward, we will continue considering a diversity of support methods to provide aid to those in need, as part of our ongoing mission to empower people and society.
