Rakuten Mobile Launches Town Gas Brokerage Service “Rakuten Gas”

- Business tie-ups with Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas and KEPCO, Applications accepted from October 26 from customers of Rakuten Denki living in the Kanto, Chubu and Kansai regions

Tokyo, October 22, 2020 - Rakuten Mobile, Inc. today announced that it will begin accepting applications on its website for the Rakuten Gas town gas brokerage service from October 26, 2020. The Rakuten Gas pricing plans will be set at the same level*1 as the regional gas companies that work with Rakuten Mobile, and customers can earn Rakuten Points earned according to the size of the bill. Applications are open to customers using Rakuten Denki*2 and living in the service areas*3.

In offering the Rakuten Gas service, Rakuten Mobile has signed town gas brokerage contracts with gas retailers Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., Toho Gas Co., Ltd., and Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc.

Rakuten Gas service area and pricing plan

The service areas*3 of Rakuten Gas are those served by Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas and Kanden Gas, which is provided by Kansai Electric Power. The service is available to current customers of Rakuten Denki living in those regions. The Rakuten Gas pricing plans will be set at the same level*1 as that of the gas pricing plans provided by the regional gas companies. Like Rakuten Denki, a pricing plan simulation will be offered to customers. The detailed Rakuten Gas pricing plans will be available on the service application website to be launched on October 26.

Earn more Rakuten Points with the Rakuten Denki bundle

Customers who use Rakuten Denki with Rakuten Gas are further able to increase the number of Rakuten Points they receive, earning 1 point for every 100 yen spent on electricity and gas*4.

In addition, new customers applying for Rakuten Gas will receive 2,000 Rakuten Points. To mark the launch of the Rakuten Gas service, a service launch campaign is planned. Furthermore, users who sign up for the Rakuten Gas set will receive an additional 0.5% Rakuten Points on the Super Point Up Program (SPU), which increases the number of Rakuten Points earned when shopping on Rakuten Ichiba.

Rakuten Mobile will continue to contribute to the healthy development of the energy market by offering a range of attractive and accessible energy services to customers through Rakuten Denki and Rakuten Gas.

*1 Same level means that the Rakuten Gas price plans are same as local gas companies’ (Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas and Osaka Gas) price plans.

*2 Rakuten Denki is a low-voltage electricity supply service that supplies individuals and households nationwide (excluding certain remote islands). The service offers a 0 yen (excluding Doryoku Plan) base rate and a simple billing structure for each region based on a unit cost that varies with the level of consumption. The electricity bill is calculated by multiplying the consumption-linked variable cost for the area of residence by the amount consumed for the month (kWh), plus fuel cost adjustment fee and renewable energy power generation promotion levy.

*3 Tokyo Gas service area: Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi and Gunma prefectures (of the area supplied by Tokyo Gas, excludes districts supplied by Tosai Gas, Higashinihon Gas and Nichigas Mooka area)
Toho Gas service area: Aichi, Mie and Gifu prefectures
Kanden Gas service area: Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Shiga, Nara and Wakayama prefectures (the area supplied by Kanden Gas excludes the area supplied with town gas by the City of Otsu Gas Business Concession)
There are districts in the above areas that Rakuten Gas cannot supply gas. For further details, please check the Rakuten Gas website.

*4 Customers with Rakuten Denki earn one Rakuten Super Point for every 200 yen spent on their electricity bill. Rakuten Points are only awarded for payment of Rakuten Denki and Rakuten Gas bills by credit card.

Rakuten Gas is a town gas brokerage service offered by Rakuten Mobile to customers of Rakuten Denki who live within an applicable service area.

Service areas:
Areas supplied by Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas and Kanden Gas (The Tokyo Gas service area excludes the Tosai Gas, Higashinihon Gas and Nicigas Mooka area. The area supplied by Kanden Gas excludes the area supplied with town gas by the City of Otsu Gas Business Concession.)

*Supply of Rakuten Gas may take from 1-3 months from completion of the application process by the customer.
*Operational safety of gas supply, etc., is the responsibility of Tokyo Gas, Toho Gas and KEPCO as gas retailers.

Payment method:
Credit card payment only. Bills can also be paid using Rakuten Points.

Other:
After signing up with Rakuten Gas, customers can continue using the Rakuten Gas service even after cancelling their contract with Rakuten Denki. In this case, customers will earn 1 Rakuten Point for every 200 yen spent. Customers which only sign up for Rakuten Gas will not be eligible for the Super Point Up Program (SPU).
