Rakuten and SQREEM Launch Rakuten SQREEM, Inc.

- The new company will develop digital marketing solutions for advertisers built on AI-based behavioral pattern analysis.

Tokyo, February 3, 2020  - Rakuten, Inc. and SQREEM Technologies Pte. Ltd. announced today the launch of Rakuten SQREEM, Inc., a new company that provides advertising companies located in Japan with marketing solutions built on AI-based behavioral pattern analysis.

Launched today, Rakuten SQREEM is a new company established by Rakuten and SQREEM Technologies (Japan) Pte. Ltd., the Japan division of SQREEM Technologies, a company that provides AI-based marketing solutions. The new company will utilize the data provided by the more than 100 million Rakuten members*1 in Japan and the behavioral pattern analysis data owned by SQREEM to provide marketing solutions enabling media buying for internet advertising and the precise analysis of consumer behavior. The system will aim to create new value and improve ad performance in the Japanese market by providing advertisers with a clear picture of increasingly complex consumer behavior.

In Singapore and countries throughout Asia, SQREEM provides marketing solutions that are not dependent on individual consumer attributes by utilizing a behavioral pattern analysis platform that combines the collection and analysis capabilities of their proprietary AI technology and big data acquisition technology to analyze the massive and complex consumer behaviors and contexts that cannot be analyzed by human beings using open data. By combining the technology of SQREEM with the consumer behavior analytical data of the Rakuten Group, the new company launched today will provide digital marketing solutions that offer a higher level of precision for the Japanese market.

Greater considerations for the handling of user data are being called for with the rise in awareness of the importance of protecting personal information in data-based marketing, such as the enactment of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union on May 2018 and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) enacted in California in January 2020. To date, Rakuten has worked hard for the protection of personal information when utilizing data accumulated by the Rakuten Group to provide marketing solutions. In addition to fully complying with these regulations, Rakuten SQREEM hopes to provide high-performance solutions to advertising companies that take into account the importance of protecting user data by developing digital marketing solutions that are not dependent on personal attributes, and instead use the analysis of open data available online.

Rakuten and SQREEM will continue to create new digital marketing solutions for a range of companies through Rakuten SQREEM.
