Drone Delivery and Rakuten's Flight Path Forward

Drone delivery is getting closer to becoming a part of our regular logistics infrastructure. The team behind Rakuten's drone delivery project had to start from zero by building an actual "delivery drone" and designing a system for operating the company's new service. And after a series of trials and demonstrations over the years, in 2021 Rakuten was able to successfully use drones to deliver goods to a high-rise apartment complex. We followed the path of Rakuten's drone business as it continues to fly into the future, carrying heavier orders, traveling longer distances, and becoming a paid service.
