The Rakuten Open is Japan’s largest tennis tournament, and the only one featured on the ATP World Tour 500 Series, attracting a host of leading international male players. This year was Rakuten’s eleventh as the tournament’s title sponsor.

This year’s men’s singles lineup included world number one Novak Djokovic, while the championships also featured a wheelchair tennis division for the first time, headed up by Japanese legend Shingo Kunieda, who holds the record for the most Grand Slam victories in wheelchair tennis, at 42 titles.

Among various Rakuten booths onsite, Rakuten Mobile set up a special “VR (virtual reality) Experience” booth to demonstrate potential uses of 5G, with games from the quarterfinals onwards streamed live using 5G network technology.
