What are your current responsibilities?
My current mission is to maximize the number of Rakuten Card transactions. More specifically, I plan promotions that encourage Rakuten Card usage among customers and improve our major services, including system development. We take action based on credit card usage analysis and customer insights, which helps us make improvements to our services. This process involves repeatedly facing challenges and making improvements while interacting with a variety of people in other departments and business units. This important mission involves a large amount of financial resources, so I feel a lot of pressure, but the experience and sense of accomplishment is worth it. Also, handling data has a great impact on our clients for better or worse, so I make sure not to slack and never do mediocre work.
Why did you join Rakuten?
Rakuten’s corporate culture encourages employees to challenge themselves. If you are ambitious, Rakuten always has opportunities to take on challenges and grow. Although I, myself, am new to the company, I have never had a proposal rejected because of my age or lack of experience. My seniors and colleagues will sometimes support me, but I feel that the experience gained by proactively and independently taking initiative is an asset that I will be able to carry through different stages of my life. Thanks to this environment, every time I reflect on my accomplishments and achievements, I realize how much I have grown.
Message to students
Personally, I believe there are no mistakes when it comes to job hunting. If you are confident in the decision you make, the company you chose will be the right one. I kept this in mind throughout my job-hunting activities as a student. Of course, I worried a lot and felt unsure. I hope that you, too, will experience some uncertainty and struggle internally until you make up your mind and select the best environment for you. Sometimes, exchanging opinions with others and thinking long and hard is great. I will be very happy if you choose Rakuten after your extensive internal deliberation, since doing so suggests that you would be able to play an active role here at Rakuten. Again, if you are looking for a challenge, I think Rakuten is truly the best place for you. I look forward to the day when I can work and grow alongside you!
What does your typical workday look like?
I start my day by checking my email and schedule. Sometimes, launching a particular service, I will arrive at work earlier than usual because I’m so excited to see the response the day after the announcement. I am grateful to have the chance to attend workshops to develop my skills and knowledge outside of my day-to-day work. I usually leave the office around 18:00 to 19:00, but the time seems to fly by when doing fulfilling work.
SCHEDULE
- 08:30
- Arrive at the office. Check my email and schedule. I always look at my plans ahead of time so that I can take on tasks with time to spare.
- 09:30
- Analyze the data for a project. I make sure to set aside time to focus on tasks that are high importance and may require lots of time.
- 12:00
- Lunch. I usually have lunch with members of the same department, but I often have lunch with colleagues working in other divisions as well.
- 13:00
- Data analysis workshop. This is very useful in gaining knowledge directly from experts that you can apply in your daily work.
- 15:00
- Team meetings. Once a week, we share our work and progress with the team. This is a valuable time for consultation and feedback.
- 17:30
- Analyze the data for a project. I continue to analyze the data in a systematic way until I feel I have done enough for the day.
- 19:00
- Leave the office. I usually finish around 18:30 to 19:00.
