Rakuten Releases iPhone App of
its New Curation Service ROOM

TOKYO, August 18, 2014 - Rakuten, Inc. today announced it has released an iPhone app for its new curation service ROOM, in which users can collect and introduce products from Rakuten Ichiba on their own exclusive page.

This new app is the iPhone version of the ROOM app, which was first launched in June 2014 as a smartphone web app, and offers the same features as the web version. ROOM is a service in which users can collect and introduce their favorite products or purchased products from Rakuten Ichiba on their own exclusive user page, known as myROOM. In addition to the images on the Rakuten Ichiba page, users can add their own images and text about the products that they have added to their myROOM.

When ROOM users discover a product through another user’s myROOM page and goes on to make a purchase of the product, the owner of the original post is awarded Rakuten Super Points equivalent to 1% of the purchase price. This will allow Rakuten users to develop their myROOM page as their own “shop” which gathers their favorite products.

ROOM also offers social media features whereby users can follow other ROOM users as well as post comments and automatically upload images to partner social networks. The new iPhone app of ROOM is compatible with push notification services, making it possible to view updates in real time from other users as they click on the “Colle!” button (referring to “Collection”), post comments or follow the user’s myROOM page on the iPhone’s home screen, lock screen, and when using other apps.  

To create their own “shop” using ROOM, users need to post original images and text to create a page that shows off products in an attractive manner. The iPhone version of the app is even easier to use because users can easily upload photographs they take or photographs stored in their iPhone’s photo gallery. Additionally, product images are shown in large sizes, making it possible to emphasize the uniqueness of original images and enhance product marketing.   

Rakuten will continue to release apps for the various services offered by the Rakuten Group as well as enhance the features of the curation app ROOM to make it even easier to use and promote its further use.
