Rakuten Mobile to Offer
ASUS “ZenFone(TM) 2 Laser (ZE500KL)”

Tokyo, July 29, 2015 – Fusion Communications Corporation, the telecommunications company of Rakuten Group, announced today that it will begin offering the “ZenFone^TM 2 Laser (ZE500KL)” smartphone made by ASUS JAPAN Co., Ltd. (“ASUS”) as part of its Rakuten Mobile device and SIM card sets from 10:00 on August 8. It will also begin accepting applications for mobile number portability (MNP)^*1 from the same day.

Rakuten Mobile will offer the 8GB and 16GB models of the ZenFone^TM 2 Laser (ZE500KL). In Japan, the 8GB model of this smartphone will be sold exclusively by Rakuten Mobile. Upon purchasing the 16GB model of the ZenFone^TM 2 Laser (ZE500KL) as part of the Rakuten Mobile set, customers will receive a special bonus of 1,000 Rakuten Super Points.

The ZenFone^TM 2 Laser (ZE500KL) is the successor model to the ZenFone^TM 5 (A500KL). Despite significant improvements in specifications of the device, the price for this model has been kept at a lower level than its predecessor, with the 8GB model retailing at 22,800 yen (excluding tax). Furthermore, the ZenFone^TM 2 Laser (ZE500KL) has also been positioned as the entry-level model of the high performance smartphone ZenFone™ 2 (ZE551ML), which was launched in April 2015. This makes it a user-friendly model even for customers who are using smartphones for the first time, such as the elderly or children.

In addition to a design that fits naturally into the palm of the hand, this phone also utilizes the Zen UI™, a unique user interface by ASUS that focuses on ease of operation. This interface offers an “Easy Mode” for the elderly, and a “Kids Mode” for children. The smartphone features 13 million pixel rear camera and a 5 million pixel front camera, and is equipped with ASUS’ proprietary “PixelMaster” technology, reducing noise even in dark environments to produce bright and clear photographs. The laser auto-focus on the back camera instantaneously measures the distance to the subject that is being photographed, and automatically adjusts the focus quickly. In addition, the strength of the dual-color LED flash automatically adjusts to match the brightness of the surrounding environment, so that natural colors can be produced even when the flash is used during photography.
