Kobo Glo HD Now on Sale in Japan

TOKYO, July 23, 2015 –Rakuten Kobo Inc., a subsidiary of Rakuten, Inc., today announced the release of its new eReader, the Kobo Glo HD, in Japan today. The device is available for purchase from the Rakuten Kobo eBook Store and selected online and offline retail stores in Japan. The price of the device is 12,800 yen (including tax).

Globally announced in April this year, and already available in North American and European markets, the Kobo Glo HD has been well received for its high resolution Carta E Ink HD touch screen and compact 6-inch design. The Kobo Glo HD model being sold in Japan comes equipped with two English-Japanese dictionaries pre-installed, making it even more useful for English language learners who wish to learn English by reading eBooks. The Kobo Glo HD is also the first Kobo eReader sold in Japan to come with the “read it later” app Pocket^*1, which lets readers save articles from their favorite apps and sites, and come back to read them whenever they'd like on the Kobo Glo HD^*2.

In addition, Kobo has also launched the Kobo Glo HD Support Dial service, in which a team of specialized staff are ready to answer questions on everything from setting up the device to purchasing eBooks. This toll-free service can be used not only by those who have already purchased the device, but also those are considering purchasing it.

To commemorate today’s launch of the Kobo Glo HD, the first 3,000 customers to purchase the device and log in with their Rakuten membership ID will receive a 2,000 yen coupon for use on the Rakuten Kobo eBook Store^*3.

Kobo will continue to enhance its services so that anyone, anywhere can enjoy the pleasure of reading.

*1 Pocket is a free app that allows users to easily save articles, videos and links from their favorite apps and sites. Saved articles can then be read on any device, any time, even when a user is offline.
