Tokyo, June 2, 2015 - Rakuten, Inc. and Kanazawa City today announced that they have concluded an agreement to collaborate on the further revitalize the local economy of Kanazawa City through the utilization of the Internet.
This agreement will see Rakuten and Kanazawa City collaborate to support local businesses in Kanazawa, revitalize the local economy, promote local industry and contribute to further development of the local community by expanding the sales channels and promoting the sale of local products of businesses in Kanazawa through collaboration with the various services that Rakuten provides.
In March this year, Rakuten opened its Kanazawa Branch Office as a regional hub for the Hokuriku area (serving Toyama, Ishikawa, and Fukui prefectures), providing support to merchants in the region on Rakuten Ichiba and hotels registered with Rakuten Travel, as well as bolstering operations of new shops and hotels. With the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen, there has been increased focus on Kanazawa as the central hub for tourism and business in the Hokuriku region, with a number of initiatives between government and the private sector aiming to further develop the local economy underway.
Rakuten and Kanazawa City will continue to deepen their cooperation through this agreement as they work to revitalize the economy of Kanazawa.
