TOKYO, March 4, 2013 – Rakuten Inc. (JASDAQ: 4755) today announced that it has launched the exclusive members-only loyalty rewards point program, “Taiyo Mileage Club” for consumers who purchase a solar power generation system through Rakuten Solar service.
The Taiyo Club resembles common airline industry frequent flier programs and represents the industry’s first-ever attempt in providing a service where generated solar power can be exchanged for various perks. These perks are provided through the “Taiyo Mileage Service,” and allow club members to choose from four unique services for every 10,000kWh of solar power they generate. These services include a solar panel inspection, module cleaning, energy efficient cleaning of either air conditioner, or range hood. Exclusive members-only perks also include the “Solar Mileage Club Member Loyalty Benefit,” which is based on duration of membership, the “Emergency Pack Delivery Service,” where a compact rental rechargeable battery and four liters of water for emergencies are delivered to the home, and the “Sunshine Compensation Service.” The Taiyo Club members are able to receive these exclusive members-only services through My Page function. The Taiyo Club also plans on collaborating with other services offered by the Rakuten Group moving forward.
The Taiyo Club first begins accepting annual memberships (11,000 yen, including consumption tax) from existing Rakuten Solar members, and it plans on launching a monthly membership option in summer 2013 to expand the number of payment options. In addition, as part of the Taiyo Mileage Club Launch Campaign, customers who become members between March 4 and May 31, 2013 will receive a bonus of 5,000 Rakuten Super Points.
Going forward, the number of The Taiyo Club membership slots will also be expanded for customers who purchase a solar power generation system from Ecosystem Japan Co., Ltd., which is a Rakuten Solar business partner.
Rakuten Solar will continue expanding the post-installation services it offers, in order to enhance the merits of installing a solar power generation system, and to contribute to the wider adoption of renewable energy systems.
