TOKYO, February 1, 2013 — AIRIO Life Insurance Co., Ltd., a consolidated subsidiary of Rakuten Inc. (JASDAQ: 4755), today announced it will change its registered company name from April 1, 2013, pending approval from the relevant authorities.

2. Date the change will come into effect: April 1, 2013

The company owns and operates business across a wide variety of industries, including financial services, where it is constantly expanding its credit card, banking, securities, insurance, and e-money offerings to comprehensively meet the needs of its members.
In the area of insurance, Rakuten continues to promote life insurance sales through its various Group companies. Since April 2009, Rakuten has also been selling insurance products through AIRIO Life Insurance. Currently, Rakuten markets 119 life and non-life insurance products from 43 companies (as of January 29, 2013) and will continue to expand its insurance services.
AIRIO Life Insurance aims to deliver comprehensive life insurance solutions that are both easy to understand and reasonably priced. As the company continues to expand its offerings, the name change to Rakuten Life presents the company with increased opportunity for synergy within the Rakuten Ecosystem.
