Kumamoto Earthquake

In April 2016, the region of Kumamoto on Kyushu Island, Japan, was struck by a series of strong earthquakes. The powerful tremors caused human losses and sever material damages.
The Rakuten Group offers its deepest condolences to those who have been affected by the earthquakes and would like to bring its support to the recovery efforts by taking the actions described below.

EFFORTS BY RAKUTEN GROUP

Rakuten Group, as well as Hiroshi Mikitani, Chairman, President and CEO of Rakuten Inc., made monetary and relief good donations to the earthquake-affected areas.

Total relief donation amount: 30 million yen

Details:

  • 19.25 million yen monetary donation to Kumamoto Prefecture
  • 9.63 million yen monetary donation to Oita Prefecture
  • 1.12 million yen worth of relief goods (food, towels, plastic containers and tarpaulins donated between April 22 and May 13)
  • Donations from Hiroshi Mikitani, Chairman, President and CEO of Rakuten, Inc.

    Rakuten Ichiba implemented the "Assistance through everyday shopping!" program (ended May 5). For each order placed by participating customers during the program, Rakuten Ichiba put 10 yen toward relief efforts for the affected areas. Thanks to the collaboration of 43,496 customers, 531,450 yen were gathered.

    Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles

    The Rakuten Baseball, Inc. Players Association has donated one million yen, with a further one million yen from the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, manager Masataka Nashida and coaches, for a total donation of two million yen through the "Rakuten Clutch Special Charity Fund".
