Tokyo, October 7,2013 – Rakuten Edy, Inc. today announced the addition of an automatic recharging function to the Rakuten Edy iOS application. The service being offered from today enables customers to recharge their Edy, and check their balances and transaction records by iPhone and iPad.
The Rakuten Edy iOS app can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store. The app now comes with an autocharge function and allows the user to recharge a Rakuten Edy-equipped card, check balance, or track transaction history by linking to PaSoRi RC-S390, the contactless IC card reader/writer from Sony via Bluetooth.
The auto-charge function allows users to complete transactions at any time at 360,000 Rakuten Edy-affiliated retail outlets nationwide. The function checks the Edy balance every two hours and automatically recharges the card when the balance falls below a designated level.
Rakuten Edy introduced the “Edy auto-charge” function to its Android app in April 2011. In view of growth of around 20% year-on-year (as of September 30) in the number of customers with the Android app currently installed using the auto-charge function, it was decided to offer an easy way to recharge online for iPhone users.
Rakuten Edy continues to strive to provide more satisfying and convenient services for customers.
