Rakuten Releases AI Models Optimized for Japanese

As part of its vision of "AI for all," Rakuten has been developing Japanese large language models (LLMs), of which the latest version, Rakuten AI 2.0, was released to the open-source community in February 2025, along with a "mini" small language model (SLM). This new LLM is a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model that is 8x more powerful than the previous version and has achieved a "best-in-class" score.
