Rakuten Voices Opposition to Government Ban on Points for Furusato Nozei Program

Rakuten Group held a press conference in response to a revision by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications banning intermediary Furusato Nozei ("Hometown Tax") websites from granting points to users.
The ministry has claimed that banning such points would eliminate costs associated with points paid by regional governments to intermediary sites. However, Rakuten explained that in the case of its Furusato Nozei program, Rakuten, not the regional governments, bears the cost.
