This is a peated single malt whisky which had been matured at Chichibu Distillery. The Scotch has a distinctively smoky flavour as germinated barley, which is one of the raw materials for malt whiskies, was dried using peat. This distinctive peatiness, however, is clearly one of those “love it or hate it” flavours, thus non peaty whiskies have been the most popular ones these days. Recently though, these peaty whiskies have been gaining more popularity all over the world as people find their aroma and flavour beguiling once they get hooked by their smokiness.
This whisky has a smoky nose which reminds you of smoked bacon or bonfire. It has an extremely rich and complex flavour for its young age. In order to bring out this flavour fully, it has higher than average alcohol content. It is non-chill filtered and no artificial colours were added when bottled. You will absolutely enjoy this unique flavour.
The phenol level of barley is 59.6 ppm which is the best peat level ever used by our distillery. The casks “Bourbon”, “Refill Hogshead”, “Puncheons” and “Pipes” were used to blend it in a good balance. ABV is 53.5% which is rather high in order to bring out the deep rich flavour.
