TOHOKU SMILEBringing smiles to children through the power of sports!
The fundraising project for Soma Kids Dome was launched in March 2014 to create a safe and purely enjoyable space for children to engage in sporting activities, such as baseball. Aimed at providing support for reconstruction and recovery efforts in Fukushima, the Soma Kids Dome was completed in December 2014 with close to 20,000 donations from across Japan.
In order to develop sound minds and bodies for children who have less opportunities to play freely outdoors after the earthquake disaster, the project seeks to mobilize the collective power of all the people who love and care about Fukushima, with the hope of creating a place that can serve as a symbol for the region.

Through the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, which is based in the Tohoku region, as well as other initiatives, Rakuten will continue to provide assistance and support for reconstruction and recovery efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake.

TOHOKU SMILE

Challenge Forever in Soma

Four years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake.
What can athletes do for the children of Fukushima?
We felt that having athletes interact directly with the children, as well as giving the children the opportunity to experience various types of sporting activities, could help in uncovering even the smallest possibilities. I hope that we will be able to continue implementing this project going forward.

Koichi Nishimura, President of the Specified Non-Profit Organization, “Save the Beach”
