Tokyo, August 20, 2014 – Rakuten, Inc. today announced that it began the 020 Campaign, whereby customers can generate coupons usable for shopping at Rakuten Ichiba just by taking a photo of the logo of the offline store Rakuten CAFE, operated by Rakuten.
In the campaign, participants can receive coupons that can be used for shopping on the smartphone version of the Rakuten Ichiba by submitting photos of the round “Rakuten CAFE” logo mark printed on mugs and paper cups in the Rakuten CAFE taken on their smarthones on the campaign wesbite. If the images are authenticated as photos of the logo, the participant in the campaign can receive a 300 yen coupon. (Usage of the coupons is limited to 5,000 participants.) Coupons can be issued and used from 10:00am on August 20, 2014 and can also be used during the period of the Rakuten Super SALE that starts at 12:00 midnight on Sunday, August 31. These coupons can be used for shopping at over 20,000 shops on Rakuten Ichiba.
This campaign introduces image authentication technology that was developed by the Rakuten Institute of Technology, a dedicated Research and Development (R&D) organisation within Rakuten, combining creativity and innovation with emerging technologies to fuel the growth of e-commerce around the world.
Going forward, Rakuten will continue to carry out various activities utilizing cutting edge technology.
