Rakuten TV Announces Its Latest Original Production - Rumeysa: Walking Tall
Barcelona, December 5, 2023 – Rakuten TV, one of Europe’s leading streaming platforms, is set to launch Rumeysa: Walking Tall, a documentary that follows the inspiring journey of the world’s tallest woman. This compelling documentary will be available for free on Rakuten TV from 21st December across Europe and will be exclusive to the platform. This impactful film is part of the Rakuten Originals collection and celebrates diversity while raising awareness of the normalization of visible differences.
Rumeysa Gelgi’s remarkable height of 215.16cm reflects her extraordinary inner strength. Born with the rare genetic mutation Weaver's Syndrome, life has not been easy for her. The documentary captures how life-changing surgery has facilitated her travel to America for the first time, allowing her to meet some of the world's most extraordinary women. On this unique journey, Rumeysa shares her story and learns from other incredible GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title holders.
Directed by Matthew Musson, an award-winning documentary filmmaker with extensive Guinness World Records experience, Rumeysa: Walking Tall allows world record holders to tell their own stories with their own voices. The film is both a meditation on the treatment of people with visible differences and a celebration of their uniqueness in the framework of a strongly needed inclusive society.
Rumeysa Gelgi, a Turkish advocate and researcher, acknowledged as the world's tallest living woman with multiple GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS titles leads the documentary. She is joined by Samantha Ramsdell, who holds the record for the largest mouth gape; Wildine Aumoithe, the shortest living woman; and Savvi Trapp, a member of the world's tallest family.
The plot reveals remarkable moments, such as the removal of six economy seats on Turkish Airlines to accommodate Rumeysa on her first flight, the epic encounter between the world's tallest and shortest (immobile) women, and the relationship between the world's tallest family, model and actress during a manicure session.
Filmed in key locations in Turkey and the US, Rumeysa: Walking Tall is a unique addition to Guinness World Records' growing library of original content. The brand’s production arm, GWR Studios, has been producing successful content for over two decades.
Filled with highlights and powerful testimonials, the documentary culminates with a moving speech by Rumeysa to a group of individuals with diverse capabilities, who find inspiration in her achievements and celebration of diversity.
Rumeysa: Walking Tall will be exclusive to Rakuten TV and available in 42 European countries for free as part of the Rakuten Originals collection.
