"Rakuten Translate" Wins Prize at "Deep Learning Business Awards"

On October 10, 2019, the Rakuten-developed machine translation project “Rakuten Translate” picked up an Award of Excellence at the “NIKKEI Deep Learning Business Awards.” These awards recognize initiatives that use deep learning technology to generate new businesses while achieving significant impact on industry and society.

 Rakuten Translate is a system developed by the Rakuten Institute of Technology that utilizes deep learning to auto-translate into multiple languages contents of Rakuten’s global services, such as video subtitles, e-commerce product titles, and travel booking information.

 The Rakuten Translate project is led by Head of Rakuten Institute of Technology Singapore, Ewa Szymanska, Principal Researcher Liling Tan, and Principal Engineer Damien Gerard. Global Head of Rakuten Institute of Technology, Masaya Mori and Ewa Szymanska attended the ceremony to receive the award on behalf of the team.
