Web Application Developer

What motivated you to join Rakuten?
Since web technology has always fascinated me, I wanted to develop this interest by experiencing how things work in a big internet-service company.
While looking for job I heard about Rakuten. I was surprised to learn that Rakuten is Japan's "No. 1 Internet services company" and that it is rapidly increasing its global presence. Rakuten has proved to be the perfect opportunity to work in a global environment and develop my personal skills at the same time.
Currently, what do you do?
Currently I am working as an application engineer in Rakuten Travel Product Development Group.
My current project is refactoring the architecture of the booking steps of the reservation process on the Rakuten Travel mobile site. Through my work, I get to experience the complete software development cycle. Technologies in which I am working are Java in the front-end and Oracle in the back-end.
Rakuten is a very big Internet Service Company with a large number of users. Developing an application which will be used by many users is a very important job; any small error can affect the experiences of many people. While a challenge, this adds an element of excitement and satisfaction to my work that I don't think I would get working for a smaller company.
What would you like to say to future employees of Rakuten?
As Rakuten expands abroad, it is becoming a more cosmopolitan company. Working in a global environment gives you an opportunity to connect with people from different countries and cultures.
Now ranked in the Top 10 Internet companies in the world, Rakuten is making waves globally. I'm excited to be a part of such an exciting movement.
